Alzheimer's Society is the UK's leading dementia charity. We provide information and support, improve care, fund research, and create lasting change for people affected by dementia.
About the role
Alzheimer’s Society Bradford’s Dementia Support Service involves dedicated members of staff giving one to one support, information and guidance to people with dementia or their carers and wider family or friends, to help people understand dementia, cope with day to day living with dementia and prepare for the future. We are at the core of ensuring that people affected by dementia across Bradford District have access to a clear and supportive pathway throughout their journey with dementia.
As a Dementia Adviser with our Bradford Team you will have the rewarding opportunity to provide support and guidance to people with dementia and their carers; helping to maintain their independence, improving their sense of well-being, and putting them in more control of their lives. You will also assist service users to access other services, by signposting and referring. The service is unique to each service user as it is based upon their personal circumstances and support needs.
You will also have the opportunity to support our local Dementia Cafés, Peer Support groups and Singing for the Brain groups alongside delivering group training.
Please note that due to current restrictions in relation to the Covid-19 pandemic our Dementia Advisers are working from home and the support service is restricted to telephone and virtual delivery with limited home visits/physical group activity. The post will become community based as restrictions are lifted.
We are looking for a highly motivated individual to join the vibrant and experienced Bradford Team, which consists of eleven staff members who are keenly supported by eight enthusiastic volunteers. You will have an understanding of dementia and the needs of people affected by dementia. You will have a good understanding of the diverse cultures within Bradford.
It is essential you have good verbal and written communication skills to meet the diverse needs of our community. Your communication skills will also need to include efficient use of IT systems to record data and communicate by email and deliver virtual services. You will understand the need for client confidentiality.
You will possess NVQ level 3 (or equivalent) or have demonstrable experience. You will be empathetic and non-judgemental in your approach with a commitment to equal opportunity. This role requires that you are able to travel independently. Please note, if you live outside of Bradford District, you will only be able to claim travel expenses once you reach Bradford District, not from your home.
If this sounds like you and you wish to apply, we look forward to receiving your application.
