About the role
The Dementia Support Worker role will primarily involve working across the North East Essex area. You will be part of our Essex and Hertfordshire Area Team.
Alzheimer’s Society Dementia Support Service provides support to people diagnosed with dementia and their carers, helping them to maintain their independence, access to services, improve their sense of well-being and have more control of their lives.
The service is unique to each service user, as it is based upon their personal circumstances and support needs. As a Dementia Support Worker, you will have a rewarding opportunity to provide support and guidance which will help people understand dementia, cope with day to day living, prepare for the future and access relevant local services.
You will offer support to service users in a variety of ways, such as face to face, by phone, letter or email. The successful candidate will be expected to have good networking skills and work on promoting the service and build relationships with a range of health and social care professionals
We are looking for an individual who possesses NVQ level 3 (or equivalent) with an understanding of dementia and the needs of those living with dementia and their carers. Your ability to assess client’s needs along with the understanding of the need for client confidentiality is essential to provide a valuable and worthwhile service, to be successful in this role you will have excellent non- judgemental communication skills as well as good organisation and time management skills. Good IT skills and experience of working with databases is also essential
You will be visiting people in their homes & providing support within a Memory Clinic setting, therefore the ability to travel independently across the area is essential.
