Alzheimer’s Society is the UK’s leading charity for people with dementia, their families and carers. There are 850,000 people living with dementia in the UK, with numbers set to rise to over 1 million by 2025. We provide information and support, improve care, fund research, and create lasting change for people affected by dementia.

About the role

Alzheimer’s Society has a long history of successful partnerships with some of the UK’s leading sports clubs and senior sporting figures. This year, we will launch Sport United Against Dementia (SUAD), a pioneering campaign that will bring the sporting world together for the first time in a truly coordinated effort to tackle dementia.

Through SUAD, we will harness the positive power and incredible reach of sport – from football to cricket, rugby to horse racing – to deliver meaningful change for thousands of current and ex professionals, managers and fans across the UK.

In the wake of the recent FIELD study in football and continued global spotlight on the impact of contact sports on brain health, there is growing impetus for the sport industry to tackle the challenge of dementia. In partnership with a Development Board of senior individuals from across the sporting world, SUAD will unlock significant income to fund Alzheimer’s Society’s ground-breaking research and vital support services, whilst driving greater awareness of dementia to create a more dementia friendly industry.

The campaign will be led by our dedicated Development Team in Fundraising, which is responsible for the creation and management of Alzheimer’s Society’s Development Boards and associated campaigns. SUAD follows the success of our first industry campaign, Insurance United Against Dementia, which launched in late 2017 and has raised over £2.2million to date. 

This role presents a rare opportunity to shape an exciting, sector focused fundraising campaign, that has the potential to revolutionise dementia prevention, treatment and support. Will you rise to the challenge and join us?

About you
We are looking for a highly ambitious individual to join the Development Team on an initial 12-month contract as Senior Fundraising Development Manager. In this brand-new role, you will have a unique opportunity to shape and drive the SUAD campaign from the outset, working closely with senior individuals on the campaign board and across the Society. You will work to identify, develop and secure high value income opportunities, exploring events, strategic partnerships, individual philanthropy and other avenues, with a personal income target of six figures. Working closely with the Head of Development and SUAD Chair, this post will also play a key role in the development of campaign strategy.

This role is instrumental to the success of SUAD in its first year and beyond and demands a highly confident and professional individual. The ideal candidate will be commercially minded, highly strategic and confident in identifying opportunities to drive the campaign forward. You will have demonstrable success in either a commercial or charitable setting and be adept at securing 6-7 figure partnerships and donations. You will be adaptable, flexible and able to successfully navigate changing priorities as the campaign develops.

The post holder will be required to form strategic relationships at a very senior level and needs to demonstrate exceptional relationship management skills. You will have experience working with C suite and senior figures, with the ability to relate to and negotiate with people at all levels – from the CEOs of industry bodies to grass roots players.
