Alzheimer’s Society is the UK’s leading support and research charity for people with dementia, their families and carers. There are 850,000 people living with dementia in the UK and numbers are set to rise to over 1 million by 2025.
We are looking for an experienced individual to join us on a 10 month maternity cover contract as the Head of Events, who will lead our award-winning team, reporting directly to the Director of Fundraising. The Events Team consists of our flagship Memory Walk, our Running programme, Challenge events programme (cycling, swimming, trekking and skydiving), Mass Products such as Cupcake Day and the development of New Products. We aim to provide the best possible supporter experience to increase acquisition and income, to ultimately support more people affected by dementia. The Head of Events will lead the team to deliver our ambitious target to raise over £20 million in 2020/21 towards the overall fundraising goal of £90m.
About the role
Alzheimer’s Society’s Events continues to grow from strength to strength with a large presence in third party events such as the London Marathon (2019 COTY as Dementia Revolution), Ride London, the Great Runs series and Action Challenge; as well as a focus on growing our bespoke events including Memory Walk, Cupcake Day, Elf Day, Trek 26 and Trek Up. As a focus for the whole Fundraising directorate, these bespoke products are anticipated to grow hugely in both volume and value over the coming years. To ensure this growth and that we maximise our opportunities; we are looking for a strong experienced leader as the Head of Events to lead, inspire, develop and manage the team, responsible for 10 direct reports and a wider team of 48.
Reporting to the Director of Fundraising and an integral part of the Fundraising Leadership team, this is a fantastic opportunity for you to be part of a truly exciting and growing Fundraising team and make your mark in this rapidly expanding national charity.
This is a maternity cover position from June 2020 until 31st March 2021.
You will have a demonstrable and proven track record in leading and delivering large scale fundraising events. You will have experience of multichannel marketing campaigns, developed supporter journey experiences and experience in managing large, multi layered teams.
You will demonstrate high levels of integrity, leadership and emotional intelligence, have the ability to work effectively as part of a leadership team and have an evidenced and excellent sense of judgment. You will have experience of managing large teams and bringing teams together; encouraging collaboration, empowerment, and a constant strive for improvement.
