About the role

We are looking for a highly motivated individual with excellent communication skills to join our team. This exciting role is part of the Devon and Torbay Dementia Adviser service which provides information and support to people with dementia, their carers and wider family or friends.

As a Dementia Support Worker, you will have the rewarding opportunity to provide information and support to people with dementia and their carers; helping them to maintain their independence, improve their sense of well-being, and put them in more control of their lives.

The service provided is unique to each service user as it is based upon their personal circumstances and support needs.  In this role you will also be required to develop professional relationships with statutory and voluntary organisations across the local area in order to deliver seamless support to individuals which will be delivered in a variety of ways: face to face, by phone, letter or email.

About you
You will need an NVQ level 3 in health and social care (or equivalent experience), as well as an understanding of the needs of people with dementia, and their carers.  The ability to assess and evaluate client need is essential, along with good organisational and time management skills to manage a caseload effectively, with the ability to manage several tasks at once and keep yourself motivated to perform to meet deadlines. A high level of good quality data entry, record keeping and report writing is required, and a good standard of IT skills is essential.

The successful candidate will possess excellent communication skills and an understanding of delivering a service using a person-centred approach.  They will have experience of face to face service delivery and a broad understanding of statutory and voluntary services.  They will be committed to supporting people with dementia to live better lives.

Experience of working with and role managing volunteers is desirable.  The successful candidate will be required to undertake an enhanced DBS.
